We just uploaded our unboxing and hands-on video for the Huawei Mate 70 Pro. This smartphone marks the latest flagship offering from the brand. But how does it stack up against other high-end phones from China that just made their global appearances? Here’s a brief comparison between the Mate 70 Pro, the Oppo Find X8 Pro, and the Vivo X200 Pro.

    Comparison Overview

All three smartphones are considered flagship devices, providing a top-notch experience. The design and display preferences can vary, making it difficult to declare one as definitively superior. The Mate 70 Pro, Find X8 Pro, and X200 Pro all sport an aluminum frame combined with a glass body. They also come with impressive IP68 and IP69 ratings for protection against water and dust. A notable feature is the large circular camera setup located on the back of each device.

    Display Features

There is a minor difference in their screen sizes; however, none of them are particularly compact flagship options. The Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro come equipped with a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display offering FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 4500 nits. In contrast, the Mate 70 Pro has a slightly taller 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display, also featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution, but with a lower peak brightness of 2500 nits. • Huawei Launches Mate 70 Pro Plus and Two New High-End Smartphones

Huawei Launches Mate 70 Pro Plus and Two New High-End Smartphones

Huawei has launched its latest flagship smartphone range, introducing the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, and Mate 70 Pro Plus. Along with these models, the Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design and Mate X6 have also been revealed, but those are discussed in a separate article.

    Dimensions and Displays

Similar to earlier Mate series, the Mate 70 is the most compact among them, measuring 160.9 x 75.9 x 7.8 mm and weighing 203 g. Despite its smaller size, it still boasts a 6.7-inch display. In contrast, both the Mate 70 Pro and Mate 70 Pro Plus are equipped with larger 6.9-inch screens, housed in dimensions of 164.6 x 79.5 mm. Notably, the Mate 70 Pro Plus is marginally thicker and heavier at 8.3 mm and 226 g, whereas the Mate 70 Pro measures 8.2 mm and 221 g.

    Camera Capabilities

All three smartphones in the Mate 70 line come with 120 Hz LTPO AMOLED displays, along with 13 MP front cameras that have an equivalent focal length of 18 mm. Moreover, the Mate 70 Pro and Pro Plus include Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras for 3D facial recognition, which results in three cutouts on these models. Additionally, each of the Mate 70 versions features side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanners for security.

In terms of photography, every Mate 70 model is equipped with a 50 MP main camera that has variable apertures ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, and a focal length equivalent to 24 mm. They also share a 40 MP ultra-wide camera with a 13 mm equivalent focal length, offering a 120˚ field of view and an f/2.2 aperture. However, the telephoto cameras differ; the Mate 70 has a 12 MP sensor with 5x zoom, while the Pro models feature a more advanced 48 MP sensor that allows for 3.5x optical zoom.

    Battery and Charging Features

Battery specifications also vary among the models. The Mate 70 Pro Plus holds the most substantial capacity at 5,700 mAh. The Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro follow closely with 5,300 mAh and 5,500 mAh capacities, respectively. Additionally, the Pro versions support faster charging, with 80 W for wireless and 100 W for wired, while the standard Mate 70 offers 50 W wireless and 66 W wired charging.

As is typical, Huawei hasn’t disclosed the chipsets powering the Mate 70 series. Initial reports indicate that all three models are expected to use the Kirin 9020, but details are still limited. It’s also uncertain if Huawei plans a global release for the Mate 70 series. For reference, the starting prices for the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, and Mate 70 Pro Plus are CNY 5,499 (~$758), CNY 6,499 (~$896), and CNY 8,499 (~$1,172), respectively.

  • Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 Gen 2 Expected Launch Late 2024

Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 Gen 2 Expected Launch Late 2024

The Huawei Mate 70 Pro has reportedly revealed its display in a recent pre-launch leak, though its design may not come as a big surprise.

    Upcoming Product Launches

What could truly astonish fans is the impressive lineup of high-end devices that Huawei plans to unveil on November 26, 2024, as shared by the well-known leaker, Digital Chat Station. Alongside the Mate 70 Pro, which includes the standard, Pro+, and a rumored Ultimate Design version, the launch will also feature the Mate X6. Additionally, Huawei’s fourth-generation Freebuds Pro flagship wireless earbuds are expected to make an appearance.

    New Health and Tech Gadgets

Moreover, the highly anticipated Watch D2, which focuses on advanced health tracking, is set to debut in the Chinese market during the same event. This shows Huawei’s commitment to expanding its health-focused technology offerings.

In addition to these devices, Digital Chat Station has indicated that the MatePad Pro 13.2 will also be showcased. Since Huawei already has a 2.8K 3:2 OLED display tablet under that name, this leak could suggest the arrival of a second generation, as the first model has been on the market for over a year now.

    A New Smartwatch

Lastly, the leaker mentions that Huawei will unveil an "Extraordinary Master" Watch at the upcoming product event. The current version of this smartwatch, which is a type of the Watch Ultimate, retails for $738.18 on Amazon and features impressive specifications while being crafted from luxurious materials valued at 21,999 yuan (approximately $3,000). It’s difficult to envision what additional features an upgraded model might bring to the table.

  • Huawei Mate 70 Pro Design and Specs Leaked

Huawei Mate 70 Pro Design and Specs Leaked

Huawei is anticipated to unveil its Mate 70 series smartphones soon. While there’s been less information available compared to past launches, a recent leak has disclosed some design and hardware modifications for the high-end Mate 70 Pro model.

    Design Changes

A significant alteration seems to be on the back of the device. According to a render shared by TechBoilers, the Mate 70 Pro preserves the iconic circular camera module seen in the Mate 60 Pro, but now features a thicker outer glass ring.

The LED flash has been moved to the bottom of the ring, and is accompanied by a new inscription: "AI-DC." This could imply that the camera system will incorporate AI-driven image processing.

    Hardware and Camera Specifications

Internally, the Mate 70 Pro is rumored to be equipped with a new Kirin 9100 chipset. Although specifics of this SoC are limited, it is expected to deliver improved performance and efficiency over the Kirin 9000S used in the Mate 60 Pro.

The camera system is also reportedly undergoing changes. The primary sensor on the Mate 70 Pro is said to be a 60MP unit, an upgrade from the 50MP sensor on the Mate 60 Pro. The 12MP ultrawide sensor and the 48MP 5x periscope telephoto lens are likely to remain the same, based on the leak.

    Front Camera and Additional Features

On the front, the Mate 70 Pro is believed to feature a 48MP sensor, replacing the 32MP sensor from the Mate 60 Pro. Additionally, a 3D ToF sensor will be present for enhanced facial recognition.

It’s crucial to remember that these are merely leaks, and Huawei has not officially confirmed any details concerning the Mate 70 series. If these details are accurate, it remains uncertain whether these changes will be enough to rival the latest flagship models from other brands.
