Lenovo S02: Affordable Controller with Hall Effect Sensors

Lenovo appears to have a much wider selection of products available in China compared to the global market. Still, importing directly can often be a good choice. This includes the newly released Lenovo S02 gaming controller. Currently, you can find this model on Banggood for about $29, not including tax and shipping fees. Be aware that shipping might take some time; if you place an order today, you can expect the item to arrive between early and mid-January.

    Modern Features

Although the Lenovo S02 is a fairly standard controller, it is loaded with contemporary technology. Notably, Lenovo incorporates Hall effect sensors in its analogue triggers, which are designed to provide very accurate input readings. However, it is unclear if the joysticks also utilize Hall effect technology. The controller lacks extra buttons on the back, but the front features a turbo button. Activating this function allows users to achieve up to 110 presses each second by holding down a button. This can be particularly helpful during quick-time events or in arcade-style games. Additionally, the gamepad includes a rumble function with adjustable vibration levels.

    Connectivity and Battery Life

There are three ways to connect the controller: you can opt for a wired connection, or you can go wireless using either Bluetooth or a 2.4 GHz receiver. You can find the configuration options available in an app. The 600 mAh battery charges through USB-C and can last for up to 10 hours of gameplay. The controller works with PCs, smartphones, and the Nintendo Switch.

Bluetooth Controller Adapter for NES Expansion Port Now Available

RetroTime has introduced the NES Hub, claiming it to be ‘a Bluetooth receiver unlike any other’. Earlier this year, RetroTime revealed their plans for the NES Hub with four main goals. Primarily, this device allows for Bluetooth controller support on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), expanding beyond just the traditional NES controller (curr. $26.57 – renewed on Amazon).

    Alternative to Old Accessories

The NES Hub also acts as a substitute for the official NES Four Score, which is now over 30 years old and can be hard to find. Additionally, it utilizes the 15-pin expansion port found on the bottom of the NES. It’s important to highlight that the NES Hub is designed specifically for the NES-001 model and won’t work with any later revisions of the NES.

    Enhanced Audio and Future Expandability

Furthermore, the NES Hub is compatible with Expansion Audio, a feature created by Nintendo that allows games to access additional audio channels for a better sound experience. The accessory also includes three ports meant for future add-ons to enhance the CPU and controller interaction, as well as other potential functions. Currently, you can purchase the NES Hub from 8BitMods for $57.28, or for $83.30 if you opt for the SNES controller add-on. As of now, RetroTime is aiming to start shipping the NES Hub in December.
