Anbernic Reveals Full Specs of RG CubeXX Retro Gaming Handheld

Hardly any time has gone by since Anbernic unveiled the RG CubeXX. However, the company has quickly moved forward to confirm all important specifications for the device. As anticipated, the RG CubeXX resembles the RG Cube, but it shares much of its internal components with the newer RG35XX models, such as the RG35XX SP (currently priced at $76.99 on Amazon).

    Specifications Overview

Anbernic has outfitted the RG CubeXX with the Allwinner H700, which is a common feature in many of its budget-friendly retro gaming handhelds released in late 2023. Therefore, the RG CubeXX boasts four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores and a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. Additionally, with 1 GB LPDDR4 RAM, this device should be powerful enough to emulate sixth-generation home video game consoles like the Dreamcast, GameCube, and some PlayStation Portable titles.

    Battery and Display Features

In addition, the RG CubeXX comes with a 3,800 mAh battery that Anbernic claims can last up to 6.5 hours on a single charge. The device is also equipped with a 3.95-inch IPS display that supports a resolution of 720 x 720 pixels with a 1:1 aspect ratio. Notably, the RG CubeXX can connect to an external display while using a wireless controller, thanks to its built-in Bluetooth 4.2 support. While Anbernic hasn’t announced a specific release date yet, it appears that the RG CubeXX will launch later this month.

  • Anbernic Launches RG CubeXX Classic with New Wireless Controllers

Anbernic Launches RG CubeXX Classic with New Wireless Controllers

Anbernic has had a pretty subdued beginning to this month, at least when we look at their usual pace. To summarize, their most recent launch was the RG406V, which is currently priced at $234.98 on Amazon and came out in the middle of September. Since then, there have been numerous whispers about new products from Anbernic, including new wireless controllers, the RG408, RG406P, or even a variation of the RG Cube.

    Exciting Announcements

Now, at least two of these products have become official. Anbernic has recently introduced a new version of the RG Cube and a new set of wireless controllers. It’s important to note that, for the time being, they have only provided information on the RG Cube. The wireless controllers can be seen around 3:30 in the video shared below, and they closely resemble the 8BitDo’s Ultimate 2C, aligning with recent leaks.

    Specifications and Features

According to Anbernic’s description linked to the same video, it appears that the RG CubeXX Classic might actually share more features with the latest RG35XX series than its predecessor. While this has not been officially confirmed, the indication that the RG CubeXX Classic will be capable of emulating Dreamcast, N64, and PS1 games suggests that it will utilize the same Allwinner H700 chipset as the RG35XX SP. In contrast, Anbernic has chosen to include a 3.95-inch square display with a 720p resolution and a 1:1 aspect ratio. Additionally, the RG CubeXX Classic will feature 5 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, RGB lighting around its joysticks, and HDMI output. Although Anbernic has yet to disclose pricing or when it will be available, we believe more information will be shared later this month.

  • Anbernic RG406P Leaks: Retro Handheld Inspired by Retroid Pocket 4

Anbernic RG406P Leaks: Retro Handheld Inspired by Retroid Pocket 4

Less than a month ago, Anbernic launched the RG406V, which is currently priced at $229.98 on Amazon. While many companies might pause their product releases after such a launch, Anbernic follows a different approach. They have consistently introduced at least one new product each month since the beginning of this year.

    New Rumors Emerge

Now that October has begun, it’s not surprising to hear rumors about upcoming Anbernic handheld consoles. Recently, NITTRX shared a drawing of what it claims to be the RG408, which features dual screens. Moreover, the same YouTube channel has also released a similar image of a supposed ‘RG406P’. Members of the NITTRX community have pointed out that this RG406P looks like a Retroid Pocket 4, but with the d-pad and left analog stick swapped around.

    Specifications Still Unknown

Sadly, details regarding the specifications of this new device are still unavailable. However, it is reasonable to assume that the RG406P will take a lot of its features from the RG406V. The RG406V sports a 4-inch, 4:3 aspect ratio display with a resolution of 720p, a 5,500 mAh battery, and is powered by a Unisoc T820 chipset. This indicates that the RG406P will likely be closer in size to the newer Retroid Pocket Mini rather than the Pocket 4, which has a larger 4.7-inch, 16:9 display.

    Anticipation Builds

As the gaming community awaits more information, excitement continues to grow about what Anbernic might have in store. The combination of innovative design and improved specifications could make the RG406P a strong competitor in the handheld market. With Anbernic’s track record of frequent releases, it won’t be long before we get a clearer picture of this device’s capabilities.

Anbernic RG408: Unique Retro Gaming Handheld with Dual Screens

Anbernic has launched a variety of handheld gaming devices this year. However, a recent rumor from NITTRX indicates that the company might be working on something quite different. It’s important to mention that the YouTuber has said, “nothing is confirmed yet.” Therefore, there’s a possibility that the design shown below might never actually be released.

    Exciting New Design Features

Reports suggest that Anbernic is creating a gaming handheld featuring dual screens, with the larger one able to slide up, exposing the smaller one beneath. According to the image below, these screens would have resolutions of 960 x 720 pixels and 640 x 480 pixels, both maintaining a 4:3 aspect ratio. The device is also expected to include the standard set of action buttons along with a reasonably sized d-pad.

    Specifications and Controls

In addition to this, the rumored RG408 is said to come equipped with two analog sticks that can twist to uncover select and start buttons. Unfortunately, there is still no information on when the RG408 might be launched. Instead, Anbernic has recently unveiled updated versions of the RG35XX SP and introduced a new model called the RG406V. Furthermore, the company might be getting ready to roll out a collection of wireless controllers inspired by the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C, which is currently priced at $29.99 on Amazon.

Anbernic has been quite active this year with its introduction of new products. To summarize, the company has successfully launched a new gaming handheld every month since early 2024, with the latest being the RG406V, which was released last week. Additionally, there are rumors of a more affordable version of the RG Cube being developed, along with a new iteration of the RG35XX SP, currently priced at $89.99 on Amazon.

    New Controllers on the Horizon

Recently, a set of controllers has been added to the list of upcoming Anbernic items. Although Anbernic has not officially confirmed anything yet, images of three controllers featuring the Anbernic brand have been spreading on platforms like Bilibili in China and Reddit. It’s important to note that these seem to represent three color variations rather than separate controller models.

    Design Features

The unnamed controller includes the standard range of buttons, featuring two joysticks and a d-pad laid out similarly to an Xbox controller. However, Anbernic has chosen to use Nintendo-style XYBA buttons, following in the footsteps of 8BitDo. The design of the controller closely resembles that of the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C, which is also available in a special edition variant called Black Myth: Wukong. As of now, details about the launch and pricing of Anbernic’s similar controller are still unknown.
