Diver-X has started taking preorders for its new ContactGlove2 VR gloves, which feature haptic feedback and hand tracking. These gloves enable VR enthusiasts to interact with their virtual environments seamlessly by naturally grabbing, manipulating, and using virtual items. They are wireless and battery-operated, offering freedom of movement for activities like dancing. The original ContactGlove received recognition as a 2023 CES Innovation Award Honoree.
Enhanced Tracking and Feedback
While camera-based hand tracking solutions like the Ultraleap Hyperion (available on Amazon) are available, they have limitations. These visual tracking systems struggle when hands are blocked and lack any physical feedback when virtual hands contact or hit virtual objects. The ContactGlove2 is equipped with a Haptic Reactor that delivers sensory feedback. Additionally, this updated version features enhanced finger and hand tracking, along with a more comfortable design.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The gloves connect to a computer via a 2.4 GHz dongle, making them compatible with various applications, including most SteamVR apps, VRChat, and Resonite. The built-in 1,400 mAh battery provides up to 8.5 hours of use and can be fully recharged in 3 hours using a USB-C power supply. An optional Magnetra2 physical controller can be magnetically attached to the ContactGlove2, offering joystick and button controls.
Preorder Details
Customers can pre-order the ContactGlove2 for a suggested retail price of $512, or they can opt for a bundled deal with the Magnetra2 controller for a total of $527. Diver-X anticipates shipping the gloves by mid-December 2024. Buyers will need a SteamVR-compatible headset, such as the HTC Vive Focus Vision (available on Amazon), and must also have an HTC VIVE SteamVR Base Station 2.0 (available on Amazon) along with two compatible trackers, like the HTC Vive Tracker (3.0) (available on Amazon).
